"You do those things because it's the right thing to do, but you don't know cancer until you've lived it. You don't know how much it matters until it's your story."

- Charlie Shuman

Charlie's Family of Dealership, generously supports many community undertakings, including the building of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer in 2007.

The Walk for Hope is personal for Charlie’s Family of Dealerships. Many of their 250+ employees are impacted by cancer; even more of their loyal customers are touched by it, too, and, in 2016, cancer got hold of Nancy Shuman, the beloved company matriarch. She battled back and the dealership is doing the same through their support of local cancer care.

For the second year in a row Charlie’s Family of Dealerships put local cancer care at the heart of their community support. Throughout the month of October Charlie’s donated $50 for every new car purchased through the Pink Plate initiative. When Nov. 1 rolled around, the Charlie’s team proudly reported a total of $14,500 from car sales – which they bumped up to $15,000 to round out an impressively generous $25,000 sponsorship commitment to this year’s Walk for Hope. Their unique combination of outright sponsorship and contributions from car sales allowed them to support and engage the community in caring for one another which perfectly sums up their Community of Hope sponsor status. Thank you to the Charlie’s team for another inspiring example of caring for community!
