Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer:

MaineGeneral Medical Center and MDFMR Dermatology Services in Augusta are proud to bring Mohs micrographic surgery, or Mohs surgery, to patients with skin cancer. Mohs is a precise surgical technique in which the skin cancer is removed in stages, in the office, until all cancer has been removed. Mohs surgery is the treatment of choice for high-risk basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It offers the highest cure rates while preserving healthy tissue.

MaineGeneral Medical Center and MDFMR Dermatology Services are the only Mohs providers in the Kennebec Valley and have hired two Mohs surgeons: Brian O’Donnell, MD, MAT, who had a dermatology practice in Freeport for many years; and Dan Filitis, MD, who recently completed his fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY.
