MaineGeneral's Walk for Hope

Augusta, ME

14th Annual Walk for Hope
Held: Saturday, October 14, 2017

Change. That’s part of why we walk, right? We walk to change futures – to prevent, to diagnose, to treat and to cure so that futures aren’t affected by cancer for long if at all. So, tough as it may be, maybe change is good.

As we’ve said many times during this year of change for the Walk for Hope itself, we can change the logistics – the where and the who. We can add a few things here and there – tents, t-shirts, race bibs. What we can’t and would never change is you and your strength. Our stories are not always happy ones, but we come together on this day to remember as much as to celebrate and both those things take an incredible amount of strength. And to give – to walk – so that someone else’s journey is made a bit easier by the miles you or your loved one have had to travel…well, that’s something pretty darn special.

On October 14th we filled our capital city’s downtown with more than 1,000 survivors, fighters, rememberers and supporters. Together you all contributed $151,802 to local cancer care that keeps our loved ones where they need to be – home – if they find themselves facing a cancer journey of their own.

Thank you for what you’ve done and will do for patients and their families as a result of your willingness to walk and to hope. Thank you for embracing change with us and being the essential ingredient that always stays the same. We hope to see you next year, on October 13th, to continue our mission of support.
