No presents for me, please!

Nine-year-old Hailey knew how she wanted to celebrate her last single-digit birthday—by giving the gift of fun to kids in recovery. While planning her party, she took initiative and told her parents that rather than getting gifts herself, she wanted guests to bring items that would help occupy children during a hospital stay. She’d heard of others doing the same and this little lady’s big heart connected with the mission of caring. With much pride (and a few joyful tears!) Hailey’s mom sent out invitations with Hailey’s request. At the birthday party, the basket filled to overflowing with kindness—and with crayons, coloring books, puzzles, stickers and more!

Miss Hailey, in her pretty pink party dress, delivered her birthday loot in early April, charming us all with her amber eyes, her sunshine smile and her heart of gold. She reported that her party, full of dancing and giggles and fun, was awesome. In addition to the gifts her guests brought, Hailey used some of her birthday money to purchase other items. Her adult-sized generosity will brighten many sick days for children having to spend time in the hospital. We are grateful for her example of how a little fun, some rocking dance moves and good friends can make a world of difference!

Pediatrics Wish List:

If you’d like to help care for our kids, we have a couple of items on our Wish List! Please contact the Office of Philanthropy for more information if anything below feels like a good fit for you.

  • One bench and one picnic table for the playground so parents have a place to sit as their children play. To comply with safety and appropriate materials grade for exterior use, we have specific products in mind! Call if you’d like more information.
  • Two Apple iPad Airs (IT recommended 64 GB-9.7). Kiddos, like all of us, get restless during hospital stays. Help keep them playing while off the playground! iPads can be loaded with educational games and other distractions that keep them engaged even when bed-bound. With your donation, our IT Department will help us purchase the most appropriate technology for this purpose.
  • Donations to help cover the cost of murals for walls outside of pediatric rooms and within each of the four private rooms. Kid-friendly art on the walls can help transform their room from hospital to adventure!
