We're Thayer for You!

“Our mission remains simple and grounded in a commitment to the patient —seeing each person as an individual, and working together as a team to provide the best care possible.”

On Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, MaineGeneral Health hosted a ribbon-cutting event to dedicate the newly renovated Thayer Center for Health. This project was the capstone of our two-year endeavor to open a new regional hospital, the Alfond Center for Health, in November 2013, and, less than one year later, to complete Thayer’s transformation into the most comprehensive outpatient center in the state.

Building on rich history, the Thayer celebration harkened back to the legacy and vision of its founders, Drs. Hill, Piper and Goodrich. Their expertise raised the bar for health care in Maine, when people traveled from out of state for ENT and ophthalmology services.

Chuck Hays, president & CEO of MaineGeneral Health, explained, “We approached this opportunity to transform Thayer in a way that pays homage to and preserves its great history — a history of providing excellent care that puts the patient and family needs first every time.

“The values and mission of Thayer ring as true today as they did 63 years ago at its founding. Our mission remains simple and grounded in a commitment to the patient — seeing each person as an individual, and working together as a team to provide the best care possible.”

Hays continued, “Our commitment to the greater Waterville community is represented by the investments we made here at Thayer, as well as by expanded investments in the Hathaway Creative Center and in primary care practices throughout the area.

“We remain the largest employer in Waterville and at the end of the day, the quality of care provided here is reflective of those we employ.
I couldn’t be more proud of the work they’ve done — particularly during the added stressful time of construction— to make each and every patient experience a positive one.”

“Staff are excited to see the Thayer Center for Health become a reality and to serve their patients here. I thank them for their steadfast commitment to excellent care and service to this community.”

Throughout the day-long event, more than 700 community members, many of them retirees, toured the transformed facility.

Much history was shared and the common theme of health care excellence was honored as people vocalized their pride in where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re headed as a visionary health care provider for central Maine, enhancing outpatient access accordingly as care advances.

Since cutting the ribbon, “punch-list” to-dos are being finalized, physicians and staff are feeling at home in their newly renovated spaces and patients are finding it easier to get the care they need all in one location. It’s a new day at Thayer!

“Our mission remains simple and grounded in a commitment to the patient —seeing each person as an individual, and working together as a team to provide the best care possible.”
