Thayer Center for Health: A patient perspective

Jeannine DeRosby

Waterville, ME

Lifelong Waterville resident Jeannine DeRosby initially had concerns about inpatient care moving 17 miles down the interstate to north Augusta. After her own knee-replacement experience last spring, she had this to share:

“The new hospital corridors are long, but that’s the only complaint! It was such a special experience — private rooms make a world of difference and the nurses and doctors…everything was accessible and everyone was efficient. The food was delicious, the facility was clean. Now I see Thayer, too, and the vision that made sure all this happened ‘just so.’ The pieces of the care puzzle fit together perfectly.

MaineGeneral has set up services at Thayer so you don’t have to bounce around from here to there to there. Everything is in one location and it’s wonderful.”

With a delightful, soothing, French-accented calm Jeannine shares one last bit of wisdom for MaineGeneral: “Our elderly population is growing. Welcome us — it cures so many ills, imagined and real. We are proud; we don’t like to be beholden to anyone but if it’s done gently and with kindness it lightens the load. If you continue to do that, our area will be very well taken care of indeed.”
