Why give to MaineGeneral?

We work in health care because we want to make a difference in people's lives. According to the employee engagement survey, most of us love working here and feel lucky to be at MaineGeneral. A campaign pledge is one way to give back, to thank MaineGeneral for all it does for us, our families and the community.

You may designate your gift to any of the following areas or give to what means the most to you by clicking Donate Now or by completing the pledge form. All dollars raised benefit these programs:

MGH Education Fund

The Employee Education Fund offers financial support to any MGH employee, clinical or non-clinical, who wishes to develop their skills through education. Employee education is one of the most effective ways for MaineGeneral to remain on the leading edge of exceptional patient care. Every  employee is eligible to apply for Employee Education Fund assistance.

What the money is used for: Your gift provides financial assistance for MGH colleagues to pursue professional development and continuing education opportunities. In 2023, 235 employees received a total of $147,228 in assistance from the Employee Education Fund.

Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care

The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care (HACCC) offers comprehensive cancer services in one location, close to home. The HACCC is currently undergoing a significant expansion and renovation.

What the money is used for: Your gift helps add more exam rooms and chairs, improves work flow to better serve patients, broadens support services and allows for future needs as treatment for cancer patients advances and changes.

HEART Fund

The HEART (Hospital Employee Action Response Team) Fund offers financial assistance to eligible MGH employees and volunteers who are facing a catastrophic life event (for example, a house fire, major illness, domestic violence incident, or an accident resulting in loss of work or property, etc.). In 2023, 93 employees received a total of $120,352 in HEART Fund assistance.

What the money is used for: Your gift helps your fellow MGH employees and volunteers in their times of financial need.

United Way

The United Way works to create long-lasting community change by addressing underlying causes of the challenges our region faces. United Way serves all communities in Kennebec County and partners with 58 local nonprofit and school-based programs ― including several MaineGeneral programs - to provide a better quality of life for people who experience emergencies, hardships and personal challenges. Last year, more than 32,000 local people received assistance through a United Way program.

What the money will be used for: You may designate your United Way gift to one or more of the 58 community programs partnering with the United Way. Or you may leave undesignated to serve “where needed most.” Your United Way contributions, designated or undesignated, will receive funding from your dollars in the next calendar year.
