Why give to MaineGeneral?

We work in health care because we want to make a difference in people's lives. According to the employee engagement survey, most of us love working here and feel lucky to be at MaineGeneral. A campaign pledge is one way to give back, to thank MaineGeneral for all it does for us, our families and the community.

You may designate your gift to any of the following areas or give to what means the most to you by clicking Donate Now or by completing the pledge form. All dollars raised benefit these programs:

Behavioral Health

Behavioral Health services at MaineGeneral are critical for the health and wellbeing of our community. From inpatient acute stabilization to outpatient counseling, our behavioral health team provides a comprehensive range of services for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders.

What the money is used for: Your gift will strengthen key components of our behavioral health program, including patient transportation through the ACT Team, expanded access to care for uninsured and underinsured patients, program enhancements, and other resources that reduce barriers to treatment and support sustained recovery.

HEART Fund

HEART (Hospital Employee Action Response Team) Fund offers financial assistance to eligible MGH employees and volunteers who face catastrophic life events such as a fire, major illness, domestic violence, etc. In 2025 the HEART Fund helped 95 employees with more than $87,000 in assistance.

What the money will be used for: Your gift will provide direct assistance to MGH employees and volunteers in times of financial need.

Education Fund

Employee Education Fund offers financial support to any MGH employee, clinical or non-clinical, who wishes to develop their skills through education. Employee education is one of the most effective ways for MaineGeneral to remain on the leading edge of exceptional patient care. Every employee is eligible to apply for Employee Education Fund assistance.

What the money will be used for: Your gift provides financial assistance for MGH colleagues to pursue professional development and continuing education opportunities.

Mammography

Mammograms provide essential, life-saving breast cancer screening and early detection for our community. MaineGeneral offers 3D digital mammography in Augusta, Gardiner, and Waterville. From 2023–2025, we performed 55,255 mammograms. At the Alfond Center for Health (ACH), a mammogram is performed every 15 minutes, five to six days a week. Following the closure of Inland Hospital, patient volume has increased significantly, placing greater demand on our equipment.

What the money is used for: Your gift will support replacing our 13-year-old mammography machines at ACH. Each machine costs approximately $550,000, and every dollar helps ensure continued access to timely, high-quality breast cancer screening.

Epic

Epic is a 3-year, $70+ million investment that will improve the financial health and long-term sustainability of MaineGeneral. This electronic health record (EHR) implementation will help improve communication across MaineGeneral and with external healthcare providers, provide better user experiences for patients and our medical staff, reduce duplication of efforts, improve diagnostic accuracy, streamline financial operations, and so much more.

What the money will be used for: Your gift will support the operational costs to implement Epic.

United Way

United Way serves communities across Kennebec County by partnering with more than 58 local programs—including seven MaineGeneral programs—to support people facing emergencies, hardships, and everyday challenges. United Way brings people and resources together to improve the lives of individuals and families. Last year, United Way's community impact work touched the lives of more than 29% of local people. United is the Way to create lasting change.

What the money will be used for: Your gift will strengthen programs and initiatives that help people across Kennebec Valley meet basic needs and enhance early learning, financial security, and overall community health. Undesignated gifts are the best way to help United Way meet its mission, but you may choose to designate your gift to one or more community partner programs. Designated gifts are distributed to selected programs in the following calendar year.
