Ways to give

You can give to the Combined Campaign in multiple ways. Choose the method that works best for you:

Payroll Deduction

Means making a donation that is directly deducted from your paycheck. Giving by payroll deduction is easy and has several options to best fit your philanthropic needs.

One time payroll deduction means you select the donation amount and on the first payroll of 2024 this amount will be deducted and directed as you choose; a great option for per diem staff that don’t receive bi-weekly checks.

Bi-weekly payroll deduction means you select the donation amount and payroll will divide that amount by the 26 pay periods of the year, allowing you to make a larger gift with small payments spread over the year.

Amount per pay period         Total
$1   $26
$2   $52
$3   $78
$4   $104
$5   $130
$9.61   $250 MGH Tradition Club
$26.92   $700 United Way Leadership Level
$38.46   $1000 MGH President’s Club

Earned-time (ET)

Can I make a gift of earned-time? ET is a great way to make a contribution and not feel the pinch in your paycheck! ET hours often accrue more quickly than we can use them. You know how valuable your time is—please think of this as a wonderful opportunity to make it even more so!

If you choose to make your contribution by transferring the value of unused earned-time, please note:

  1. Your election to contribute earned time hours is irrevocable (cannot be changed).
  2. The cash value of the total number of hours you elect to contribute will be treated as compensation paid to you in 2025, then contributed to the charity or charities you selected.  That means the cash value of the hours you contributed will be reported on Form  W-2 as part of your 2025 compensation (earnings).
  3. The amount transferred to the charity or charities will be the amount remaining after the application of tax withholding.
  4. Your Earned-time balance will be deducted in January 2025.

How is an ET donation calculated? Take your gross hourly wage and multiply it by .6535; this will provide you with an approximate post-tax calculation of your hourly wage. Divide the gift amount you want to donate by this number to determine how many hours you’ll need to donate. Note: You will be able to see this information real-time on the online pledge form.

ET Guidelines
The guidelines below outline the Earned Time plan provision pertaining to MaineGeneral Health transitions from an Earned Time Accrual Cap to an Earned Time Roll-over Cap:

For 2025: There is a cap of 240 hours that can be accrued. Prior to the first paycheck of each year:

  1. Amounts used for time off during the Christmas and New Year holidays will be deducted
  2. Earned time hours donated to the Employee Combined Campaign will be reserved from
balances for use toward the campaign later in the month
  3. Any remaining hours of earned time hours over 240 will be forfeited after the above deductions
    occur

How we can make a difference:

Just to show you how quickly a little can add up to a lot—

There are 3,877 full and part-time employees on the payroll list (excludes per diem staff).  If each gave:

$1 per pay period ($26/year) = $100,802

$2 per pay period ($52/year) = $201,604

$3 per pay period ($78/year) = $302,406

Give it up!

If each of us gave $8.77 a month, we'd meet our fundraising goal of $408,000.  That's a large iced coffee and a breakfast sandwich or less than one hour of ET once a month. What could you give up for the greater good?  Why not take the value of those sodas and other stuff and give it to the campaign instead?  We can do it!
