How can I make a donation to MaineGeneral?

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, MaineGeneral Health is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. You will receive an acknowledgment letter or emailed receipt for your donation that you should keep for your tax records.

Why does MaineGeneral need donations?  
As a nonprofit, community-based hospital system, your donations help advance the exceptional care you and your family expect today and into the future. Our ability to advance care, innovate, and remain independent and financially viable while meeting the health care needs of our community depends on philanthropic gifts.  

Is there a minimum dollar amount I need to give?  
We believe every individual should give at a level that is most comfortable for them. Every gift makes an impact, no matter the amount.  

How do I make a gift in honor or memory of someone?
Making a tribute or memorial gift is a meaningful way to honor a loved one. Click here to learn more about tribute gifts. We’ll ensure your gift is directed accordingly and acknowledgments are handled appropriately.  

Do you have suggested language about memorial gifts that can be included in obituaries?
“In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MaineGeneral Health to benefit (program of choice). Donations can be made online or mailed to MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, PO Box 828, Waterville ME 04903." 

How can my company or employer support MaineGeneral?
There are several ways your workplace can support MaineGeneral. 

  • Become a Corporate Partner.
  • Sponsor an event.
  • Become a Community Partner: Businesses who bundle their annual gift of $1,000 or more with an event sponsorship of $1,500 or more are specially recognized throughout the year as part of our Community Partnership program.
  • In-kind donations: Businesses may also donate goods or services for our employee giving events.
  • Engage your employees in giving by hosting a community fundraiser.
  • Offer a matching gift program: Many companies match charitable gifts made by their employees. It’s a great way to enhance impact while engaging employees in giving back to their communities.

How will my donation be used?
You choose where your donation gets put to work! Undesignated gifts are directed to the organization’s highest area of need.  

Can I choose where my money goes?
You can direct your gift to a specific program at MaineGeneral. If you are making your gift online, you can select one of the “designation” dropdowns or select “other” and enter the area you would like to support in the text box. If you are mailing your gift, please include your designation in the memo line or an accompanying note. Please call 207.626.1809 or email philanthropy@mainegeneral.org with questions you may have about specific designations.  

Do I need to pick a program to support when donating?  
No. You can give a gift without choosing a specific program. This will allow us to put your dollars where they are needed most.  

Who can I contact if I have questions or need help with my donation?

Can I make a recurring donation?
Yes – monthly donations can be set up via our donation form and select recurring gift option. Simply select your frequency preference and gift amount. Spreading your generosity throughout the year is a convenient way to provide steady support MaineGeneral can count on. 

How do I make an anonymous gift?
For gifts made online, check the box that says “I do not wish to be publicly recognized for this gift.” For gifts sent to our office, please include a note indicating your wish to remain anonymous. 

Does MaineGeneral accept donated household items or unused medical supplies?
Due to infection control regulations, we are unable to accept used household items or unused medical supplies. 

Where can I find MaineGeneral volunteer opportunities?  
The donation of your time as a volunteer truly makes a difference at MaineGeneral. Visit our volunteer page to learn more about volunteer opportunities. 

Does MaineGeneral offer scholarships?  
Yes, we have an annual scholarship program for students living in our community pursuing education in the health care field. Applications are due in the Spring. For more information, visit our scholarship page

Is MaineGeneral part of MaineHealth?  
No, MaineGeneral is an independent health system located in Augusta, Maine. While we have many partnerships with MaineHealth, we are a separate entity.
