In March, MaineGeneral wrapped up Year 1 of a two-year, $110,000 grant from the United Way of Kennebec Valley. Funding from the United Way’s Community Investment Process supports 7 programs that serve our community members at every life stage, from babies with nutritional needs to older adults with dementia.

This year, United Way funding provided

  • 352 clinic hours at our WIC offices, where staff gave 602 clients breastfeeding support, nutrition education and access to healthy foods
  • 73 emergency food bags and hygiene supplies for clients at our Next Step program
  • 250 gas cards and 214 Hannaford gift cards to low-income patients at our Horizon Program
  • 42 counselling sessions to clients who lost their insurance mid-treatment or could not afford co-pays
  • 8 six-week Grief Support Groups attended by 66 participants, and 33 resources to children experiencing loss
  • 65 Community Health Worker clients with items to help them manage their chronic disease, such as blood pressure cuffs, scales, pill boxes and diabetic cookbooks.

Thank you to the United Way for the many ways it supports the health and well-being of people in the Kennebec Valley!
