Give Through Your Will or Trust

Whether large or small, a gift through your will or living trust (a bequest) is a lasting statement of who and what you care about, and it is a simple way for you to support MaineGeneral's mission in the future.

There are many ways to create a will, from free, online tools to in-depth estate planning firms. Writing a will could seem daunting, but having a valid will is a meaningful and important way you can extend your caring generosity beyond your lifetime. Take time to think through your wishes in detail so that your final document honors your intent, which may include provision for relatives or friends, estate or capital gains tax considerations and your charitable objectives. If you have already written your will and would like to add a bequest provision, you can do so with an attorney by an amendment to an existing will (a codicil).

How to Make a Bequest

Making a bequest to support MaineGeneral could be as simple as including a single sentence in your will or living trust. For example:

    • I give to MaineGeneral Health of 35 Medical Center Parkway, Augusta, Maine, Tax ID 04-336949, the sum of $_____ for the organization's general use and purposes.
    • I give to MaineGeneral Health of 35 Medical Center Parkway, Augusta, Maine, Tax ID 04-336949, _____ percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate/trust for the organization's general use and purposes.

Note: even though MGH has locations throughout the Kennebec Valley, specifying our legal address in Augusta (even if making a bequest to one specific program) will help avoid potential confusion with other health care systems.
